Newcastle United v Manchester United Betting Tips and Bet Preview

Newcastle United and Manchester United will meet at St James Park on Tuesday evening. Once a game that could have big consequences for the title race, two out of form sides meet in what could be a less than enthralling affair. This game kicks off at 7:45pM and you’ll be able to watch your bet live on BT Sport.

Manchester United are favourites to win the game at a price of 1.83 which is a surprise to me. Newcastle haven’t performed well lately, but they’ve saved their best for home. Manchester United have been little to write home about, and they’ve saved their worst for away from home.

United have won just four of 10 away from home this season, which although very un-champion like isn’t actually anything new. They’ve won 19 of 45 away from home over past seasons. It’s not actually a bad record, but it’s still enough to say you’re betting on a team that has failed to win not far from 60% of their away matches over more than two seasons.

Their overall form, for me, will not change as long as Louis Van Gaal is at the club. His tactics are utterly boring and Manchester United going forward look no more of a threat than Aston Villa sometimes.

United have won three of their last 11 in the Premier League. They’re remaining largely unbeaten to be fair, and it’s far, far from the disaster picture people paint; but I do re-iterate how boring and blunt they are going forward. They’ve netted 6 goals in 11 games.

Newcastle have been equally blunt, scoring 7 goals in 12 games recently. They’ve lost their last four games without registering a goal. It’s fair to say it’s just as shameful that a club like Newcastle are this poor going forward, but this has been a lot longer in the making and is more drastic than United’s position.

But one thing United do need to be weary of is how Newcastle have stepped up against the bigger clubs. Recent wins over Liverpool and Tottenham, as distant as they may feel right now, prove that they can still win games and score goals on their day.

Newcastle have found a way to avoid defeat in 6 of their 10 Premier League home games and also 5 of the last seven, having held Chelsea to a 2-2 also. Again it’s only basic stats, but it’s enough to suggest United shouldn’t be such heavy favourites. Taking quality of opponent in to account; Newcastle have already held or beaten better sides here.

United have had a much better time in this fixture than Newcastle lately, but I simply don’t trust them. These sides have already played out a 0-0 this season and I expect Newcastle to want to be no more on the front foot in this game than that one. United, as always, should create very little.

When two teams struggling this much going forward meet, you always want to look at the goals market, but there’s no value on this occasion. Another angle is to just consider the side you’d call the better value price. I can see this game finishing a draw.
